Who Must Register for GST?
You are legally required to register for GST if:
- Your business or enterprise has a GST turnover of $75,000 or more per year (or $150,000 or more for non-profit organizations).
- You provide taxi or limousine travel for passengers (including ride-share drivers like Uber) regardless of turnover.
- You wish to claim fuel tax credits for your business.
- You are a representative of an incapacitated entity (for example, an administrator or executor of a bankrupt business) that is required to be registered.
- You are a non-resident business making sales in Australia and want to register for GST (specific conditions apply).
If your current or projected turnover is below the threshold, registering for GST is optional. Some businesses choose to register voluntarily to claim input tax credits or for other operational reasons.
Our GST registration form will guide you through providing the necessary details. If you’re also applying for an ABN or business name, those sections will be included as needed. After submission, your application is sent directly to the ATO for processing.
Fast outcome: Once approved, usually within minutes to a few hours, you will receive an email confirmation that your business is now registered for GST. This confirmation will include the effective date of GST registration. You can then begin charging GST on your sales and claiming GST credits on your purchases from that effective date.
